Hmmm, I always liked Idgie from "Fried Green Tomatoes" (the blonde tomboy played by Mary Stuart Masterson). I always wanted to be her before I even suspected I had GID.

Way before I learned of Kundry, it was Dale Arden who inspired me.

Unfortunately, her vulnerability seemed her only asset in the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930's. Dale was the Princess Laya of her time, except she had Ming the Merciless holding her for ransom rather than that cafe proprieter, Java the Hut.

I have a little problem with Dale being executed for treason, except that there was a rumor that her heritage was Mongo-American. Then its ok...

Oh, is that how her name was spelled? I can't remember what it was short for…

From the song:

Captain Signy Mallory has no soul, they say.
The captain of the Norway has a heart of frozen clay.
When, on the bridge of the Norway, she throws men's lives like dice,
Captain Signy Mallory, her eyes are fire and ice.

That's a filk song, I assume, Lynnette- I've never run across it before. Not that I know a lot of filk songs anyway; from what I can tell you have to be more involved in SF conventions and things to build up a repetoire.

It is SO a filk song!

I've never been involved in Fandom, but I was in the SCA for years and years. The two cultures overlap, and the culture of filk is a huge part of the overlap. (Not that a stuffy purist like me would have listened to filk songs back then!) And you don't have to be involved to listen to the music. You just have to have old cassettes (!) recorded for you by your friends back in 1991 ...

I quite like Leslie Fish's stuff (voice like a rusty saw, guts and great lyrics). You might check out this source of online filk. They have some of Julia Ecklar's stuff too, and she's very good.

Cec, "filk" is a subspecies of folk music that exists around Science Fiction fandom, the SCA, furry culture and other, similar groups. At its crudest, filk is making up new subculture-specific words to old tunes. At a more sophisticated level, it can involve good music, good lyrics and good performers, but related to subculture-specific themes.

The legend is that the words "folk singing" were mis-spelled "filk singing" on a poster at a science fiction convention.

I pick two.

Catwoman: the first woman I remember wanting to be. I was about six, visiting family, someone said "which superhero do you want to be?" My brother said Superman, my cousin said Batman, I said Catwoman. Oops. Severe ridicule and psychological trauma followed. But I still love her:

And second, Princess Lily from Legend. Seduction has always been the most exciting thing to me, and the part where she is dancing with the phantom in the dress and then is transformed into the dark bride is enough to make my heart forget to beat. Needless to say, I've spent many many moments daydreaming about that scene.

I just went through them all, and of course they are all me, and I am all of them, as sisters eternally are sisters.

However, from many who just went through my memory, I still have to say...the one which, in summer of 2001, I got put permanently on my body.

My ex was insisting I get a tattoo. I told him, I would choose it or none at all...

And here it is, on my left breast...no, don't worry, no Janet Jackson moments here; I'm more careful than that.

As I am...as she is...surrender followed by victory...Phoenix.

Funny. Can't think of a single individual from myth or reality or history I can *identify* with.
