A huge congrats, Pam, I'm happy for you. Occasionally the urethra will become swollen due to the Foley catheter, in some cases so badly the patient is unable to pee, (causing exquisite pain), until a straight cath is used to relieve the pressure — this happened to me, OWIE! — until the swelling subsides. It's a fairly rare complication, and I'm glad it didn't happen to you!
