that's just totally horrifying... to the point where i have trouble putting together a rebuttal (and i'm s'posedly a professional writer )

but seriously, i thought you did a great job skating within 'dating show' constrictions while simultaenously tweaking them. there was nothinng sensationalistic about the show, which:

a) relieved me

and

b) didn't surprise me


but "drag queen"?????????????????

i recognize that society as a whole doesn't have a real clue as to how to categorize people (as if they need to), but mainstream media employs fact checkers and editors who are supposed to ensure that things that appear on the air/in print are at least accurate.

since i have a tangential professional connection, i feel like i have to apologize for these dopes....and i hope that any personal pain slips away soon.

What makes you think the mainstream media cares a good goddamn about facts? What they care about is ratings. Every story across which they stumble that has any decent titillation potential, expect them to milk it for all it's worth. And if the strry concerns a disenfranchised group with limited political power... well, we're at the mercy of whatever frustrated, wanna-be journalist hack they have producing the show.

well, i make a portion of my living in the mainstream media and i recognize how much parts of it suck. it's really something that tears me apart a lot of times, to tell you the truth. the other day, i had a lot of people around me treating the "pregnant man" story the way a cat treats a toy mouse. since i am not out at work at this point, all i did was go into the bathroom at some point and quietly cry.

still, most of my peers -- in the big picture -- are are good thoughtful people. i'd just like to be around more of them on a day to day basis.

That"s one of the reasons I hardly watch tv anymore,although they do seem to be pretty decent and responsible here in wisconsin(I lived in the chicago area my whole life up until last spring)and don"t really sensationalize the stories like they do in chicago.It"s like living in a totally different world here in wisconsin.They even put warnings on the news around the holidays for people to be carefull when they travel anywhere outside of this state to cities like chicago/new york etc..

They seemed to have the facts of the story pretty much... er... straight.

"Biased is an Understatement" What kind of reporting is this? This is something I expect to see on "Robot Chicken" not the 11 pm news.

I don't think it matters whether the people in question were technically drag queens, crossdressers, transsexuals, or whatever.

I'm just wondering whether some homophobic or transphobic remarks from the McDonalds staff touched off the whole thing, and fanned the flames.

i agree roxanne and think we should all boycott mcdonalds for being so unjustifiably bigoted

I think we should all boycott McDonalds not because of some intolerant employees, but because the food is really bad for us.

Anyhow, regarding the original story: while the reporting of the story was straight from the tabloids, where they wouldn't possibly let the facts get in the way of a good story, we cannot be sure that the girls (be they DQ/CD/TG/TS/whatever) were not itching for a fight to begin with. While I certainly don't make the same assumption that the mass public does - that it's always the queer person's fault - I'm not going go completely the other way either. While most of the crossdressers I know are softies, I would think that a certain percentage of the bad*ss trouble makers also happen to be crossdressers.

I don't eat at Mc Donald's anyway. Their food sucks.

Oh my gosh, that was so funny! The local affiliate made it pretty humerous without much derogatory monologue. I'll bet McD's has sent out a memo for any future drag queen incidents.
