Yes, it's a wonderful article. The author (unnamed) "gets it." And these articles are proliferating. 2007 was a banner year, with 2008 promising to be even better, even as we suffer occasional setbacks, like the naming of the new DSM V revision committee. Please, pretty please everyone, if you haven't sent a paper letter to the APA asking they they call for the resignation of Zucker and Blanchard, please do it today, don't put it off any longer. You may save a child's life. If you can make the letter polite, respectful and yet persuasive then so much the better. The mailing address is:- President's Office American Psychiatric Association 1000 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 1825 Arlington, VA 22209 USA Dear President, etc. ...

I'm truly hoping that what Joan meant was that so many people are irresponsible parents. Not all children are planned, and in some respects, almost no children are really planned for. I personally was an accident, and amazingly enough, my parents are still married 29+++ years later. Just like Natalie, event thought they didn't have a plan, they did the best they could, and my sister and I turned out o.k. I have three kids myself, and we try to hae a plan, but most of the time you're just flying by the seat of your pants.
Maybe Joan was referencing this quote from the movie "Parenthood"
Todd Higgins(Keanu Reeeves):"You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father."
