When making a post at Callies, the poster should make every effort to use words that even the most educated of readers must look up. This may make your post very slow reading, and nearly impossible to read, but you will be critically acclaimed throughout the forum, for none will like to admit that they didn't understand and comprehend every word. Use in your post all the phraseology you can muster as a kind of litmus test for intellectual equality. No one may actually read your post, but all will be forced to pretend that they fully understood it, and you brilliance and intellect will be forever unquestioned.

[SARCASM] At last!!! Someone cognizant of the subliminal affirmation extant in supercilious dialog! The verity of the linguistic phenomonon assages the bourgeoisie of the intelligentsia!

Why should the plebeian serfs be privy to the haughty intercourse between savants such as ourselves?

Ya know... Ah reckon we'ins need ta talk simple like so's not to aggravates ar girlie mates. [/SARCASM]

Wow... such a range of human expression!!!

The proceeding offered with tongue planted firmly is cheek.

Ha Ha, good one Diana. Although I got lost at the mention of that linguistic phenomonon 'sausages'. Dr. Johnston in his marvelous dictionary was supposedly very annoyed that he left out 'sausages'.

To quote Dr Johnston.

"A person that can effortlessly dress up their OWN thoughts in language is like a dog that can speak Englsh...very rare, but a person that can effectively communicate even half of their OWN thoughts is like dog that speaks Norwegian...EVEN rarer"

Ok...I'll just shut me mouth now.

Something appropriated to what is slowly going on in North America....

"Does Big Brother exist?"
"Of course he exists. The Party exists. Big Brother is the embodiment of the Party."
"Does he exist in the same way as I exist?"
"You do not exist," said O'Brien.

Actually that one is from the Back to Methuselah suite of plays, by Bernard Shaw. It's what the serpent (the Devil) tells Eve in the Garden of Eden, in the first segment.

Oh no, Bob acknowledged its source. It's one of my fave quotes, too. The Devil always says the coolest things:

"Here we may reign secure, and in my choyce
To reign is worth ambition though in Hell:
Better to reign in Hell, then serve in Heav'n." --John Milton, Paradise Lost.

Satan is the ultimate optimist. Or perhaps as Garry Hogg wrote:

"At its root, Satan is the God of the oppressed, opposing it to the 'goodness' of the God of the oppressor." (Cannibalism and human sacrifice. London: Hale, 1958.)

One of Brother Martin's latter day priests had words that our present day fundamentalists and moralitarians (sic) would do well to remember once in a while:

The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children. - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

someone whom I truly admire for his resistance to the Nazis, even in the face of the capitulation of much of the German clergy.
