Why doesnt it suprise me that most americans have never travelled outside of america ?

Hey Nats. If I post all the countries I have been to your travels would seem puny by comparison and So would Dagny's. Europeans are so provincial. If I added the 48 out of fifty states I have been to then the total would easily top 100 not to mention places like Greenland, Guam and other territories that are not technically countries. Now I also think it would be fair to add Canadian provinces instead of just saying Canada because Canadian provinces are each about the size of Europe. In fact we have counties in Florida that are bigger than some European countries and there are 67 counties in this state all of which I have been to. Georgia has 101 counties if I recall correctly. We could play this silly game ad infinitum.

I am a member of the million mile club. Any others traveled more than a million miles in their life? I did it before I was 35 years old Nats. poke

Well Deena. Your states share much the same culture and all blur into one another mostly. In Europe, you're talking about vastly differant culture and language in the space of say 15 miles...not to mention all the regional cultures and languages and dialects that never made it into a country.

You are just a poor looser. You have traveled through a few of our states but you have only spent more than a few hours in 3 of them. They are as different as France, Spain and Germany when you are talking about Northeast, West, Central Southeast, Deep south, Jersey etc. Even in Florida there is a huge cultural difference between LaBelle and Lauderdale. And if you would like to spend some time in Parts of Louisiana or the hills of Tennessee I doubt you could understand much that is even spoken.poke

Why travel to a place that most of Our grandparents left because it was to restrictive. I have been around the world and lived around it as well. And each area has it own beauty and wonderful things. But when the country is so big and so free as this one (Use to be) why would we spend the money to fly to a place lesser than what is closer to home. And yet unseen. I doubt there are more than 1% of Americans who have visited all the 50 states an even less if you throw in the likes of Guam and the Virgin Islands ..

So why travel to expensive places with people of extrema Attitudes. LOL

Well, there is the grand mistake. You assume you don't have an attitude, but let me tell you. The all pervasive 'we are the world' attitude on this forum is ALWAYS responsible for my outbursts. Of course, if you are American, you won't even realise how your attitude shines out, because of 'might is right' and 'kill by numbers'...yet it does shine out and is very offensive.

Oh no, another Americans vs. European thread! LOL.

Europe has a lot of little countries because they cannot live with each other. It's just a matter of time before they start with the bombs again, mark my words. European Union or what not, it's been tried before. I give it other two decades at most, before they get bored with peace and say, "screw this, let's kill!"

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Natural selection at its best.

Countries? I've never done tourism. Whenever I move somewhere, it's to work with the locals and live there. So I've only lived in five countries in my life: Peru (Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Iquitos), Ecuador (Machala), Chile (Arica), USA (Houston, Paterson) and Canada (Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria). 12 cities in total (although in Houston it was for less than a month).

Limited travel for me (wish it was more):

Canada
Mexico
Korea
Japan
Hong Kong

Of course many people in the US seem to think Hawaii is like a foreign country. The culture here is quite different than any other US state. Of course I've only been to 15 other states (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina).
