Excerpts:

The committee also expressed concern about state policies affecting women, ethnic and religious minorities and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

The committee calls for the addition of taxation and social welfare to the new Civil Partnership Bill and for transgender persons to be granted new birth certificates.
While acknowledging progress made toward gender equality, the committee notes that traditional attitudes towards women remain officially sanctioned in the state’s constitution.

"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." Henry David Thoreau

His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
Jesus answered, "Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him. "
John 9:2-3

Mahatma Ghandi, though a devout Hindu, was widely known to admire Jesus; Ghandi often quoted from the Sermon on the Mount, in fact. Once when the missionary E. Stanley Jones met with Ghandi he asked him, "Mr. Ghandi, though you quote the words of Christ often, why is that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming his follower?"
Ghandi replied, "Oh, I don't reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It's just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ."

Additional taxation..that'll go down like a lead weight.

It's what I've always said. You can pass all the laws you want, but in an ancient rigid society..you're shooting paint balls.

The great problem I've noticed when they promote women's rights is that it eviscerates men's rights.

Strangely, Ireland has always produced very powerful women and is matriachal by nature. Maybe the celtic women knew how to get the best deal.

Should be remembered that Ireland still bans abortion under catholic law.

I dunno if I want women wih more power anyways. Maggie Thatcher in UK introduced the infamous 'clause 28' in 1988 which forbade the promoting of LGBT issues. Dozens of support groups were forced to close. This was repealed by Blair in 2000 in Scotland and as late as 2003 in England.
