Unfortunately that is the downside about being open about being Transsexual. Even worse being in politics is a great career ender. At least she was able to give it a shot at making things better.

Eventually she will find work.

You would think that with her experience and notoriety that she could easily go into business for herself. Surely, NZ has need for political consultants. They must have lobbyists. There must be opportunities for an enterprising individual with her experience and connections. She needs to think outside the box of simply working for someone else.

Her problem is that she's out, everywhere. Try getting clients for _anything_ as an out TS and you'll see. People don't want TS consultants, heck, many don't even want TSs doing their pedicure.

I think they believe it to be contagious.

It just goes to show that being taken seriously in employment at any level is the number one challenge for trans-people.

Like moving to Australia will make everything ok. . . Please.

Australia is bigger - New Zealand has something like 4.25 million people, Aussie has 15 or more (can't be bothered checking).

Probably though, the reason that she can't find work has something to do with the fact that it's an election year and politics in this country are consequently currently somewhat fucked - nobody would want to make contentious political decisions only a few months out from a general election - sadly appointing a TS person to a non-elected political position is somewhat contentious, Georgina Beyer has always been elected by popular vote in the past.
