Hi all,
I'm Erica in Phoenix. I've been in transition since Jan of 2005, started hormones in June of '05, went full time in Nov of '06, had my first round of FFS with Dr. Meltzer in Scottsdale in March of '07, and had my SRS and breast aug with Dr. Meltzer six weeks ago. Phoenix is my home town, and I grew up here always dreaming of the day that I could change my sex, but also assuming that I would have to run off to some far distant city to do it. I feel so fortunate and it just blows me away that we have all the services right here in my home town to put together a first class transition. We of course have the world famous Dr. Meltzer, but we also have Maria at Arizona Electrolysis, who has been working with the transsexual community for over 20 years, and qualified doctors willing to prescribe hormones. Phoenix is also an amazingly tolerant city. Before my FFS, I got read every time I went out, and yet to this day, I've never had anyone even mention it to me in a public place. We also have a lively and connected trans community here. This is a great place to transition.
I am very active in my local transgender community. I was board chair of our local transgender support group, Transgender Harmony, in 2006. Last year, my friend Michele and I formed Arizona Transgender Alliance to work for the cause of transgender rights in Arizona, and I am currently chair of that organization. We've had a very good start, and have made some very significant accomplishments since our founding. We are looking forward to doing all we can to make this city, state, and nation a better place for trans-people to live.
I hope to get to know some of you in other parts of the country.
Erica
