Loc: Oregon,
When I started transition, my head hair was quite thick. I am into my fourth year of my new life. Even though I have had an orchi, my endo has kept me on spiro.

Since I have been on spiro, my head hair has got thinner, and finer. Which is what it does for body hair, and facial hair.

So I am weaning myself off spiro, to see if it makes any difference.

Hmmm... I thought Spiro reduced the amount of testosterone (which converts to follicle harasser DHT) right??? The last thing I want is to be a bald girl!!!

Erk.

Help!

I am not sure spiro is the cause, that is why I am going to get off of it. To see if it makes a difference.

I would suggest speaking to your endo about it. hug

The people who I have talked to about spiro and hair loss have said that spiro has really helped them regrow hair.

It could be just genetics. Those who have a tendency to balding find it hard to stop the process, no matter what antiandrogens they're taking.

Substituting finasteride for the spironolactone (or adding it, reducing the spiro) is a viable option. Another is bicalutamide (Casodex).

There is no history of baldness, from either of my parents.

In addition to what is already posted:
Retin-A applied to the affected area can help some folks.
Using a medicated shampoo that is TAR based(Polytar) also may help.
Definitely, if you have, or are concerned about, hair loss do not use tight hair ties or other methods that place the hair under too much strain.
Vitamin and diet supplements can help also, brewers yeast and zinc to name a few.
Hair follicles do become dormant and eventually die after a while, but proper care combined with HRT can have amazing results.
Keep in mind that everyone is different, so some things may work for some folks and maybe not so well for others.

Hope that helps.

It does, but finasteride is far more effective, at least in my case. BTW, I'm almost 50(look ~30) and still have hair that gets compliments all day long.

EDIT: Oh and one more thing!!!
To anyone silly enough to still smoke, DON'T!!!
Not only does it limit O2 to your scalp therefore promoting baldness, but also it does cause premature gray.

Rhonda, what type of finasteride are you taking and are you pre or post?

Since Rhonda is not around does anyone know about finasteride? I have not taken it before and wonder if I should.
