Does anyone know of any OTC hair regrowth stuff that works? I have a very mild receeding hair line, and I am hoping I can solve it without any medical procedures.

I haven't tried any of the OTC stuff(like rogaine). The only thing that I"ve used is oral meds such as finasteride=Proscar/Propecia,and currently Avodart. The oral meds(which were developed to treat prostate enlargement)have worked pretty good for me,but, they don't do anything as far as the frontal part of the scalp is concerned(I'm gonna need a scalp advance and some transplanting done).I checked on the price of the OTC type of hair re-growth treatment(it's not cheap)and decided to just save my money and put it towards transplanting(which is permanent).I myself would rather have the transplanting done and not have to apply something to my scalp(it's every day for the rest of you're life,ya know).IMO,I think the best thing to do is get the hair transplanting procedure done(it's permanent) and take the money that you would be spending every month on the topical treatment and apply that towards paying off the cost of the transplanting procedure.Every one of the hair transplanting clinics that I've looked into have financing programs if you don't have the money up front. There's no general anesthesia involved(just local),and if you don't have much transplanting to do it's possible to go in for 1-2 three to five hour(or less) transplanting sessions, and be done with it for good.

The only other option that I've seen is laser hair regrowth treatment.I have no idea if this actually works or not because it's pretty new. There are hand held units that are available for home use,but as I said,I have no idea if this works or not???.I'm thinking about purchasing one of the hand held units myself pretty soon and giving it a try,but I'm not sure which brand/type is the best one to get at this point.

Here's a short video you can watch about laser hair regrowth treatment...

All of the hair regrowth stuff that I am familiar with are basically antiandrogens. You should be taking antiandrogens anyway as part of your transition only yours should be considerably more powerful than rogaine.

It's not a magical pill but it seems to help with transwomen, especially those with only mild balding.

Good luck!

I've used a combination of hypnotherapy and Proscar cut in four... 27 dollars for 30 5 mg pills from Inhouse, which I cut into four pieces. Four months of hair treatment for 27 dollars isn't bad at just shy of 7 bucks a month... Here's a picture of me right before I started transition, you can see I was WELL on my way to the Piccard look...

Spironolactone & estradiol worked wonders for me. Before transition, I was experiencing recession and thinning - not too much, but I sure noticed it, and so did others. I was freaking out, as you can imagine. After about 6-8 months of the medication a lot of baby hair began to show up, and now at 14 months my hair is as thick as ever and the hairline has returned, as fluffy baby hair 1/8" to 1-1/2" long, to a very acceptable degree. It's really cool. I hope you have the same or better results.

A friend of mine went for FFS and during the procedure, the surgeon basically pulled her scalp forward - creating a new hairline.

I would like to be, but I am still very early in my transition, and money is going to be rather tight until the end of the year when my job picks back up.

I am wondering, what sort of traces would Avodart, Propecia, Proscar, etc. leave in the body system? I wouldn't dare take them without medical supervision, but I am asking because I donate plasma, and those three drugs, and several others, will have you put on the deferal list. While I don't remember which ones have what time frame of when you last took them (with one of them being "Have you ever taken.), but they do take an occasional blood sample.

I doubt if they will let you donate plasma anyway once you actually start HRT.

Avodart ect... aren't a substitute for the real antiandrogens. My advice would be to try out the actual antiandrogens like spiro and then choose whether or not you want to use a hair-regrowth product. You could stand to save a considerable amount of money that way.

Avodart, Spiro, Estrodiol, Progesterone all leave traces in blood and blood products that can result in BIRTH DEFCTS OF THE REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS.

Do you really want to have some poor kid go through the hell of being intersexed just because you needed 38 bucks?

All antiangrogens and hormones have mulitple disclaimers slapped all over them outlining the consequences. Everyone of those is due to numerous lawsuits and hundreds of kids being exposed to them in utero and being born either intersexed or gender variant.

If you insist on trying to give blood and/or plasma you NEED to disclose what medication your on to avoid injury to others. Please listen to the health care provider and when they say NO, then DON'T!

The truth is there is not really any Affective Over the Counter Hair regrowth stuff. Rogaine may help a tad but Rogaine is a little over rated. For the Most part once Scalp hair is gone it is gone forever. The only way to stop it is halting testostrone production. having an Orchi will do it. Spironalactone and HRT will help. And Medical hair transplants. Rogaine will work for a few people but not everyone.

Over the counter stuff will not help.
