I've found that since I've come out songs that I've listened to for years suddenly have radically different meaning to me personally.

I invite all you girls to post songs in this thread that you have connected with specifically pertaining to our transexuality, whether or not the song is really about it.

I know that I had a bunch in mind, but can only recall one as of this moment, so I'll just have to write them down as I find them. I'll just start with this one by my favourite band:

I'll be that Girl - Barenaked Ladies

Well, I can't find a vid for this one I discovered about 15 years ago.

David Byrne - Now I'm your mom

He is a boy
You are a girl
And you will always stay that way
But there are people
In this world
Who'd like to change what nature made

And if you take that decision
Then they will make that incision - down below

The birds and the bees
Are singin' for me
And this is the song I heard them singin'
Goin' tweedle dee dee
Tweedle dee dee
But I never heard a word they're tellin' me

Oh little girl
Please understand
And listen to the words I say
I was your dad
Now I'm your mom
I hope you'll comprehend someday

I didn't mean to confuse you
And now I know that it's hard to understand

The birds and the bees
Are singin' for me
But I never heard a word they're sayin'
Goin' tweedle dee dee
Tweedle dee dee
Freedom of choice is what they're bringin'

And when Columbus sailed
Upon that mighty sea
Well, we are just like him
Yes, we are pioneers

Into the great unknown
The wild uncharted lands
There ain't no turning back
Ain't gonna be no chains on me

Who would ever believe
Caterpillars like me
Turning into a butterfly
Well, I was suddenly free

The birds and the bees
Are singin' for me
And this is the song I heard them singin'
Tweedle dee dee
Tweedle dee dee
Freedom of choice is what they're bringin'

You know I'm man enough
Ain't gonna run and hide
My love is mighty tough
My love is mighty wild

I got a pair o' wings
And I'm gonna fly away
Too late to turn back now
Tomorrow came today - for me

I don't know if this Qualifies as a TS relevant song. "The Damage Done" by Neil Young? OK then how about "The Crying Game" Even though I Like Aerosmith The Song "Dude looks like a lady" just didn't do it for me.

Yeah I have to agree about "Dude looks like a lady"

I figure so long as you personally interpreted it as a TS song it is.

Oooh! The Kinks! One of my all time favorite rock bands.

Anyway, funny story: When I was young (probably 12 or so, I can't remember) my mother asked me what my favorite song was. I told her that it was "Lola." Of course I really meant Lala by Eric Clapton, but oh well. I got the Kinks album "One for the Road" a couple weeks later and I have been hooked since.

May I present to the court exhibit A as to why it's all Mom's fault? poke

I can see why she got confused, the song is Layla by Derek and the Dominos.

Here's my contribution to the thread:

Counting Crows
I Wish I Was Girl -

The devil's in the dreamin'
He tells you I'm not sleepin'
In my motel room alone
With nothing to believe in
You dive into the traffic rising up
And it's so quiet
You're surprised and then you wake
For all the things you're losing
You might as well resign yourself to try and make a change
And I'm going down to Hollywood
They're gonna make a movie from the things
That they find crawling round my brain
I wish I was a girl
So that you could believe me
And I could shake this static every time I try to sleep
I wish for all the world
That I could say
Hey, Elizabeth, you know I'm doing all right
These days
The devil's in the dreamin'
You see yourself descending
From the building to the ground
And you watch the sky receding
And you spin to see the traffic
Rising up and it's so quiet
And you're surprised and then you wake
For all the things I'm losing
I might as well resign myself to try and make a change
And I'm going down to Hollywood
They're gonna make a movie from the things
That they find crawling round my brain
I wish I was a girl
So that you could believe me
And I could shake this static every time I try to sleep
I wish for all the world
That I could say
Hey, Elizabeth, you know I'm doing all right
These days
And one of these dreams
You forgive me
It makes me think of the bad decisions
That keep you at home
How could anyone else have changed
But these are wrong conclusions
That leave you alone
How could everyone rearrange
How could everyone else have changed
What I see
I believe
For all the things I'm losing
I might as well resign myself to try and make a change
And I'm going down to Hollywood
They're gonna make a movie from the things
That they find crawling round my brain
Well I can't sleep at night

It's a good one.

This is not quite spot on, but allegedly has such meaning.

The Damned - Jet Boy, Jet Girl

Can you tell what's on my mind
She's with him it's driving me wild
I'd like to hit him on the head until he's dead
The sight of blood is such a high
Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

We made it on a Ballroom Blitz
I took his arms and kissed his lips
He looked at me with such a smile my face turned red
We booked a room into the Ritz
Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

Jet boy jet girl
I'm gonna take you 'round the world
Jet boy I'm gonna make you penetrate
I'm gonna make you be a girl
Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

I know I'm only just fifteen
I like to kick I like to scream
And even if I had a kink or two in bed with him
You know it's just a dream
Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

Jet boy jet girl
I'm gonna take you 'round the world
Jet boy I'm gonna make you penetrate
I'm gonna make you be a girl
Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

The other day what a surprise
I saw him with some other guys
God he was dressed up with a girl around his neck
I could have cried with both my eyes
Ooooohhhh
He gives me head

And if and when I make it though
Or if my brain is stuck on glue
And when the world tries to forget all that I said
You know I'll still remember you
Ooooohhhh
You gave me head

Jet boy jet girl
I'm gonna take you 'round the world
Jet boy I'm gonna make you penetrate
I'm gonna make you be a girl
Ooooohhhh
Jet boy jet girl

This one isn't specifically about being trans, but with a little interpretation....

Three Doors Down
Be Like That

He spends his nights in California,
Watching the stars on the big screen,
Then he lies awake and he wonders,
Why can't that be me
Cause in his life he is filled
With all these good intentions
He's left a lot of things
He'd rather not mention right now

But just before he says goodnight,
He looks up with a little smile at me,
And he says,

If I could be like that,
I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes
If I could be like that,
What would I do,
What would I do

Now and dreams we run
She spends her days up in the north park,
Watching the people as they pass
And all she wants is just
A little piece of this dream,
Is that too much to ask

With a safe home, and a warm bed,
On a quiet little street
All she wants is just that something to
Hold onto, that's all she needs

Yeah!

If I could be like that,
I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes
If I could be like that, what would I do,
What would I do

I'm falling into this, dreams,
We run away

If I could be like that,
I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes
If I could be like that, what would I do,
What would I do

If I could be like that,
I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes
If I could be like that, what would I do,
What would I do

If I could be like that,
I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes

If I could be like that, what would I do,
What would I do
Falling in
I feel I am falling in, to this again

Here are a couple more, both from Linkin Park
(please read the lyrics with trans colored glasses on)

Numb

I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface,
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
[Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow]
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
[Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow]

I've become so numb
I can't feel you there,
I've become so tired, so much more aware
I'm becoming this
All I want to do is be more like me
And be less like you

Can't you see that you're smothering me?
Holding too tightly; afraid to lose control
'Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you
[Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow]
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
[Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow]
And every second I waste is more than I can take

I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
I've become so tired, so much more aware,
I'm becoming this
All I want to do is be more like me
And be less like you

And I know I may end up failing too,
But I know you were just like me with someone disappointed in you

I've become so numb
I can't feel you there,
I've become so tired, so much more aware
I'm becoming this
All I want to do is be more like me
And be less like you

I've become so numb
I can't feel you there,
I'm tired of being what you want me to be
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
I'm tired of being what you want me to be

In The End

It starts with one thing; I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind; I designed this rhyme
To explain, in due time, all I know
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away; it's so unreal
Didn't look out below
Watched the time go right out the window
Tried to hold on, but didn't even know
I wasted it all just to watch you go
I kept everything inside
And even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be
A memory of a time when

I tried so hard and got so far
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter

One thing; I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind; I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I'm surprised that it got so far
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me in the end
I kept everything inside
And even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be
A memory of a time when

I tried so hard and got so far
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter

I put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this, there's only one thing you should know

I put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this, there's only one thing you should know

I tried so hard and got so far
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter
