heya!! ok, so Ive started seeing a local electrologist in advance of my e3K trip. it sucks. but i love the feeling i have when i walk out the door....

anyway, i read on the TS Roadmap somewhere that it should NOT feel like the hairs are being tweezed out. but it does. Is that normal? I dont really doubt this clinician. He is licensed, BBB member, 30 yrs electro experience with many peoples, and is a resource listed in our local gender alliance director. talks a lot about how much he has done in the field and that he wants to write a book etc. very sweet too and supportive. he explained that the follicle is thicker than the hair shaft so its going to have to be plucked out, hence that feeling. makes sense to me but i want to get feedback.

I intend to use him for clearing in between e3K trips and possibly for other areas like hands and chest... so I want to make sure I am avoding long term pocking, skin damage etc....

Thanks for the ALWAYS thoughtful advice y'all!!

Amy

Yes, the hair has to be pulled out and it does feel like its being plucked. The thicker and corser the hair...heck, at times my electrologist starts talking about getting a tow truck in to pull out the 'trees'. She tugs and tugs and if that thang don't come out, she zaps it again. When she zaps one and goes to pull it out and it slides out like its greased, thats a dead hair to begin with and was probably zapped the previous time but she missed pulling it.

I can't talk to the scaring or pocking, everyone's milage varies for that. Listen to your local TS girl friends and ask them about thier results from him. Thats what I did and everyone around here who's trans knows her by name and by reputation.

To help (summer is coming and you are Louisiana) some, keep a bottle of Aloe Vera in your refridgerator door. Wash your face with just water when you come back and smear a layer of nice, cold Aloe Vera gel on your face. Feels great and helps take the swelling and redness out quickly. If you have fair, frigile skin take it easy on it for the next 24 hours and do not use soap, just water. If you get a shower don't stick your face in to the stream of hot water unless you like pain.

It takes time to see results from electro. Using laser is great, it gives near immediate results. My facial hair is light blond and nearly see thru and my skin is fragile so lasers are so out for me.

Occasionally I get a hair with such a large bulb (root), that it feels like it is being tugged on when removed. This is just the fact that my hairs are gray and have enormous bulbs.

It's important that the electrologist gets the bulb or the hair will come back. Thinner, but still there.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, then I think its working. LOL. Thats what it feels like, and occasionally he will go back and do another zap to kill it. I've seriously though about laser but there are soooo many differing opinions on that. I have the right mix of skin and hair I think--dark hairs, light skin. But I have not found a one recommednations on a place yet. I there any danger to doing both that youve heard of?? a good clearing via electro then clean up via laser--or would it be better vice versa?

THANKS!

If you have dark hair on light skin, use laser to get rid of as much as possible. Then use electrology to get the rest.

I have dark hair on light skin, AND I just found a transsexual-friendly electrologist (laserologist?) who does it for $70/hr, and he has even cheaper "packages". laugh

Laser first, use the electrology to remove the blonds and white hairs. That is the prefered way to do it.

I just got stuck with see thru blond hair and overly sensitive skin.

I have been enduring electrolysis for the past 12 years (the little buggers keep growing back!) I tried IPL and that knocked out the black ones but didn't touch the grey. Laser will not work on grey hair so I must persist with electro but I find it absolute purgatory!
I keep expecting that someone will come up with a way of killing unwanted hairs that is effective and cheap...well I can dream, can't I?
