Yeah, those songs are very nostalgic for me. They remind me of how when I was a teenager I used to pine for being a girl, and being able to wear all the neat clothes (skirts, leg warmers, kashmir sweaters, tight Guess jeans without back pockets, a boyfriend's letter jacket, cheerleading/drill team uniforms, etc.) and do "fun" stuff instead of wearing T-shirts and getting bruised up on a football field. I used to be able to escape... to ME... in those songs. And today, they are the background music in my "becoming" of ME. smile

"The Look"~ Roxette

(CLICK VID-SCREEN TWICE AND YOU'LL BE TAKEN TO YOUTUBE WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE VIDEO. Idk why they disable some vids and make us go to the vid sight....)

"The Look", written by Per Gessle and performed by Roxette, was released as a single in early 1989 from the album Look Sharp!. The song became Roxette's international "breakthrough" song, finally exposing the duo to music consumers outside of the duo's native Sweden and Europe after more than one attempt. It topped the U.S. singles chart in 1989 becoming their first U.S. #1 success and scored #7 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also topped the charts in 24 other countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Look

Ah, from the times when I was in my teens and we'd go out to parties in huge groups, ready to dance the night away, or just chatting while sitting outside the noise, watching the stars.

I like that quote... very much.

You and I are the same age, within a year or two, Marce, and I'm sure you can also remember the songs that were played for the folks who have ten more years on us, when they were teens. When I heard and deciphered some of those "classic" songs, I began to understand that people before me had actually gone through the same experiences that I was then going through. . . and they told the world about it. Though the following song was about a crossdresser instead of transsexual, it helped me in making the mental connection that correcting my gender was indeed possible. . . :

"Lola"~ THE KINKS

Lola" is a song written by Ray Davies and performed by The Kinks which details a romantic encounter between a young man and a transvestite he meets in a Soho club in London.

Released in June 1970, in the UK on the 12th and in the USA on the 28th, the single was taken from the album Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One and reached #2 in the UK charts and #9 in the US. It was ranked 422nd on the List of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is famous for its C-D-E power riff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lola_(song)

"A Whiter Shade of Pale"~ ANNIE LENNOX

"A Whiter Shade of Pale" is the debut song by the British band Procol Harum, released 12 May 1967. The single reached number one in the UK Singles Chart[1] on 8 June 1967, and stayed there for six weeks.

With its haunting tone and Bach overtones, vocals by Gary Brooker, and unusual lyrics by Keith Reid, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" reached #1 in several countries when released in 1967. In the years since, it has become an enduring classic. In 2009 it was the most played song in public places in the UK,[2] and the United Kingdom performing rights group Phonographic Performance Limited in 2004 recognized it as the most-played record by British broadcasting of the past 70 years.[3] Also in 2004, Rolling Stone placed "A Whiter Shade of Pale" #57 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

More than 900 recorded cover versions by other artists are known.[4] The song has been included in many music compilations over the decades and has also been used in the soundtracks of numerous films, including The Big Chill, Purple Haze, Breaking the Waves, The Boat That Rocked and notably in Martin Scorsese's segment of New York Stories. Cover versions of the song have also been featured in many films, for example by King Curtis in Withnail and I and by Annie Lennox in The Net.

The original writing credits were for Brooker and Reid only. On 30 July 2009, Matthew Fisher won co-writing credit for the music in a unanimous ruling from the Law Lords of the House of Lords. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Whiter_Shade_of_Pale
