I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but I wear nail polish almost all the time and when I remove it on the weekend my nails have an orange tint to them towards the tips. Anyone have any good pointers to get rid of this?

Also, I have a red streak going down my middle finger and my nail on that finger always splits vertically. I Google'd it and I show no symptoms of deficiencies and I get lots of D. I am clueless and been frustrated about this for a long time.

cindy- Idk about either prob, but I wear press-on nails and I'll never go back to natural. They allow me to handle things with my hands less delicately when I need to 'cause they don't break as easily as natural nails do. And when they come off, I just superglue them back on. A $5 kit from WalMart, which has LOTS of different sized nails, lasts a LONG time. (I can't believe that some women pay other people to do their nails. To me, it's very relaxing to take time and do my own.)~ Rach

Wash with warm water, then soak the nail in non-acetone containing polish remover for about 30 seconds. Wipe, and if it's still not clear, try other further 30 seconds.

If you have a crack with polish stuck in it, soak for up to two minutes. Yes, you may need a whole small bottle of remover for this.

Washing with warm water (as warm as you can take) before the procedure is supposed to help. That's also the way to get rid of stubborn glitter.

I find that if I use a clear bottom coat, when I remove polish my nails are not stained.

Thanks for the tips girls. I do have clear no break I can use first instead of last. I do use a fake nail on the affected nail but it will eventually break and often I can't find fakes that fit good. Usually my real nails stick out under the fake nails and I don't want to trim the real ones.

Thanks you 3 smile

The stain is from the lack of oxygen to your nails. Keeping a coat of paint on them at all times is the only sure fire way of not seeing it.

I usually keep paint off my nails for a few weeks after having it on to try and maintain some ballance. You can also get one of those box shaped soft nail buffers that finely sand off the upper most layer of your nail. However, you will find the staining goes beyond the surface.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that info patty, I'll have to remember that. For my problem fingernail this girl at my salon is going to teach me how to do a wrap. I hope that works.

I remove any nail polish with 100% acetone and then use a base coat that prevents 'yellowing" which is what those stains are called. Then I use my polis hand set it. I'm fine most of the time. But before I used a base coat I had the worse stains ever!

It's a good idea to keep your nails clear from time to time, too, to allow them to breathe and stay healthy.

Works for me, anyway. Clean, nicely-shaped healthy nails are nice, even without polish, IMO.

I'll say this ... growing out the tips looks like shit, but whatever. I really don't give a damn. Another couple months and they'll be gone.
