Well, since the "Whatevah" thread seems to be a sorta popular place to dump Whatevah you want without fear of retribution, why not have a Whatevah style music thread? happycheer

I frequently burn cd"s for my own personal musical enjoyment in this fashion, and it keeps it interesting jumping from one genre to another, for me at least.

So for all of you who don"t want to go thru the hassle(too busy/undecided,or whatevah),to make a decision on which music thread to put your musical choice in...Here ya go!. laugh

I"ll do the official christening of this wacky new music thread with an appropriate one from... grin

Back in the 70s there was the fashion of dancing popurríes (mix of songs) in South America and Central America. One of the most famous was based on tropical music from Panam: La Parranda en Panamá.

It's a mix of cha cha, guaracha, cumbia, rumba, mambo, salsa and son.

Songs:
Allá en el camino real (Over There in the Royal Road)
Cincha mi caballo (Harness my Horse)
La Ligia Elena
El tambor de la alegría (The Drum of Happiness)
Degayola
Hojita de guarumal (Little Leaf of the Guarumal)
La perica (The She-Parakeet)
Tona de calle bajo (Street Party Down the Street)
Si se quema el monte (If the Mount is Burning)
Coge el pandero que se te va (Grab the Tamborine Before It Rolls Away)
Chencha quiere a Sebastián (Placencia loves Sebastian)
Guarabé
Viva Panamá (Long Live Panama)
Alfredo si tu te vas (Alfredo If You Leave)
Hecha el chingo al agua (Throw the Boat in the Water)
Dime la verdad (Tell Me The Truth)
Monteriano (Song from the Mounts)
La galera (The Galley)
Vamonos caminando (Let's Go Walking)

Parranda = slang term for a late-night party, usually a family affair, that has songs, drinks and dancing.

A typical parranda starts a Friday at about 9 pm and ends on Saturday at 5 am.

Ever put two versions of a song back to back? Take these two versions of "I Can't Explain" -- I've really for some reason turned back the clock recently.

Different version of the same song.

The original version, in French:
Comme d'habitude (As Always)
Year: 1967.
Music: Jacques Revaux & Claude François.
Lyrics: Claude François & Gilles Thibaut.
Performer: Claude François.

English versions:

Music: Jacques Revaux & Claude François.
Lyrics: Paul Anka.

Performer 1: Frank Sinatra.
Year: 1969.

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend I'll make it clear,
I'll state my case, of which Im certain.

I've lived a life thats full,
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it... my way.

Regrets, I've had a few --
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do,
And saw it through, without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway.
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I guess you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up, then spit it out.
I faced it all, and I stood tall --
And did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried,
I've had my fill, my share of losing.
But now, as tears subside,
I find it all... so amusing.

To think I did all that,
And may I say - not in a shy way:
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way."

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows --
And did it my way!

Performer 2: Elvis Presley.
Year: 1977 (weeks before dying).
