Hi everyone, I am (or go by the name of) Brittany or Britt for short as my chosen name. I am pre-everything and am looking to start transitioning this spring/early summer after I graduate school. I am 24 years old and am studying meteorology. I love photography and snowboarding.
I can't wait to learn from this forum and pass it on to others.

Hi Brittany -

Welcome to the forum. It's not as active now as it has been in the past, but good information is available.

Thank you for responding, it means a lot to me. Right now it seems I have to wait a few months before beginning transition. My problem right now is that I live with my girlfriend who does not accept me until May. I look forward to meeting with my therapist again after playing this waiting game.

Waiting is never fun. But I guess I have waited almost 25 years at this point, what is a few more months in the long run?

Thats very true. I supressed my feelings for many years so can relate to that. However, once you start on the "formal" transition process it can be very frustrating to move so slowly. It's probably good that it does move slowly so that you don't make rash decisions but once I started I felt my dysphoria all the more. Here in the UK the process runs even slower than in the US although it is covered by the NHS. They also insist you are full time before they will prescribe hormones.

You might want to ask your school about their policy regarding legal name change after graduation - that is will the school change your name on your degree? I know of one major U.S. school which has a policy of not changing the name on their records under any circumstances. A degree and transcript with a typically male name will haunt you for the rest of your professional life. Depending on your school's policy, you may want to at least begin the name change part of transition now.

Brittany: I am a CO-OP Observer in PA! Well, during the spring and summer months. I am a shameless snow bird ( a young one) and fly south as I have had enough of snow... Can you suggest a good meterology degree program? All of my instruments are vintage manual-read things.

Hey brit! welcome! people come and go quickly here, though you'd be surprised how often we come back. Transition is overwhelming so do it at your own pace. It is, more and more, something that each person does at their own pace. For example I started hormones just after my 25th birthday and didn't start living full time till i was 28 or so. You have to respect your own inner voice. Your fears are as valid as your hopes.
