Hi everyone!
I had a bunch of electrolysis years back by a hack operator who preyed on TG folks, promising much but delivering little, except receipts for money spent. Because my regrowth is, well, profound, I'm looking at what really works these days. Years ago laser was hyped, but also did little to clear a beard. Some folks would not even offer it for beard clearing, as it was so iffy. Is this still the case, or have they developed something that really works?? I am guessing that a plastic surgery clinic which offers it might be a better route than some strip mall store front operation? I'll be wintering in Florida this year. Any recommendations? Advise? Grim Warning? Thanks in advance to you all!

Hi Lexi..

Uhmm I think this is one of these questions where you are going to get varying opinions. When I first looked into laser I got mixed messages but the essential piece of info I came away with was if you have dark (ish) hairs you stand a good chance. It's also my impression that laser has advanced a lot over recent years.

Stear clear of what you describe as the budget "strip mall" operations. Most likely they are using IPL machines which are not proper laser (may work for some people but not as effective).

Soo I can only speak from my experience....

I started laser treatment at a dermatology clinic here west of London beginning of this year. They use a full strength Alexandrite laser. I've also had a couple of diode laser treatments while travelling. The results have been fantastic and I'm very pleased. I can get by with very litle make up. I just have a few lighter hairs left that will need electrolysis but I knew that from the beginning. That said there do seem to be some people who respond better than others so maybe I'm just lucky?

My recomendation is to find a proper clinic where they use the full strength lasers and know what they are doing. Go in and get a consultation and see what they say.

Thanks! I hope more folks will chime in. You're luck to have London clinics close at hand. One would hope to find good quality care state-side, but may not be the case as often as not.

Oh I'm sure there are but you may need to look more. Here in Southern UK there are not as many choices. When I've been in California I was overwhelmed with choice but many seemed to be cheaper IPL machines (or private MD's with very expensive prices. I eventually found a beauty spa (MD supervised) and got a couple of diode laser treatments there.

Lexi the outcome depends on the equipment used and the operator. If the hairs are light in color, laser can not help. I have had my complete body done with laser (except top of head. My laser tech is good and very trans friendly. She now lives in Seattle, WA. It has been a few years since I had it done and I am dark hairs clear.

Very cool Thanks for the advise and this means I am a good candidate. I travel a great deal and hope to find a decent referral. Regretfully, I am on the right coast as far west as the Missisippi and mostly in Florida this winter!

Seattle is a great town though- The crazy talkers on Pioneer Square were the best outside of Chicago. Of course now we have a new game: "Blue-Tooth or Crazy Talker? YOU decide" It adds a whole new level of mystery!
Cheers! -

On dark hair laser is just as effective as electro, but for blonde or gray's well you would have to go through electro to have those removed.................... Hope this helps ya sweetie.................
