Yeah, that question *did* cross my mind. Funny thing was, when I finally told her what was going on with me, she swears she "never had the slightest idea of it!" Ma has always been really good at selective memory...

Funny how that works. My own mother swears there was nothing about the way I grew up that might have indicated I was trans, until I started pointing out all sorts of things to her. Much of it she didn't remember.

My mom doesn't remember a lot of stuff that way too. Of course, a lot of folks around me don't remeber stuff as well…

Did I mention that my first was probably a TS on Jerry Springer?

The first one who I could get a name of (I had read 3 supermarket Newspapers , like the National Enquirer that somehow forgot to print names) was Jan Morris. I read an a sumpathetic account and interview about her in the NY Times Sunday Magazine. I'll never foget how relieved I was to find out I wasn't alone..........................sigh. I thought she was wonderful and soo brave.

I remember seeing a woman from Tennesee on the Geraldo show that had had SRS. This would have been late 80's early 90's timeframe. From what I can remeber, Geraldo went into the OR and watched her surgery. I remember he had some not so nice comments about it too.
I think that is one of the first time I thought 'you can actually do that'.

I remember that episode. The woman (I can't remember her name) had her surgery done by Dr. Biber in Trinidad, CO. They later had her back on a follow up episode, and asked her tacky questions like "So have you used your new plumbing yet?"

I used to comb every channel looking for a talk show with transsexualism as the topic for the day, and even any episodes of old sitcoms with the topic (there was a Love Boat episode, a Night Court episode...I could go on and on). I still do, but I've calmed a bit since starting HRT. I guess by actually starting, I don't feel so desparate that I need to sit there and ingest every tidbit I can find on tv. Maybe, in a way, I was living vicariously through my tv.

Hmm. I think I've had a similar experience. Once I was experiencing it for myself, I felt that I'd gotten past the stage of looking for help or for what it's like.

Oh, and I can't forget to mention that I've gotten to know lot's of wonderful Ts here.

This site has been a lifesaver for me. Although I haven't posted a lot (I'm only a Pledge there's so much information here and a ton of support. It's awesome to see how everyone jumps in when someone's down and tries to cheer her up. This is a great group of ladies.
