Hi everyone.
As some of you know, I manage a halfway house. This house is a recovery space for transfolks (male and female).
This upcoming Sunday (June 22nd), we will be having a car wash at "crusin 7th", in which the gals will be out doing their part to help pay the bills.
And we do have bills.
The organization's website is:
http://www.thisishowhome.orgAnd to be frank, we can use every donation we can get. We are supported entirely through individual donations still -- no grants, no sponsorships, no corporate funds -- just individuals who contribute anything (from 1 buck on up to 1000 -- which came from Dr. Meltzer's office.)
At this time, we are the only one like this. THere are other halfway houses that will take transfolk in, but no other one does it *only* for us, and works to keep us going.
THe program here is 12 step based, and we have a success rate of over 50% -- over twice the typical average, because we do focus on trans related issues and on getting each person the support they need.
Right now, not only do we have bills to pay that are late, we also have two girls that want to come into the program, but we need to buy beds for them.
The website allows paypal donations, and you can always mail a check to:

We are a recognized 501c3 organization, and your donation are tax deductible.
I am the only paid employee of TIH. I get 50 dollars a week. All the other monies go to direct payment for the facilities and programs that get the girls up on their feet, clean and sober, a job, and ultimately their own place.
We work with a great many different agencies to accomplish all of this, and between myself and the Director we are always striving to increase our recognition and available funds.
I, more than many, know exactly what a challenge it is to find a little coin when we are transitioning, but this helps girls who have problems even getting there.
Sorry to come a begging, but its worth it.
