Well, I am starting to get some responses to my resume and am going to be interviewing at law firms. I need to go shopping and build up my business attire though.

Does anybody have any experience or suggestions as to the best women's clothing stores to shop for conservative business attire?

Thanks

Pam

You can't go wrong with Marks & Spencers.

Sears, I'd say, smart and not to pricey, and they have quality and class.

JC Penney and Kohl's have some nice stuff too, and are pretty reasonable. Burlington Coat Factory is fairly inexpensive, but the selection is hit or miss.

I like JC Penney's because their prices are good and the quality is there. Unfortunately they closed all the Penney's in Hawaii a few years ago but I like to shop there when I travel.

Ann Taylor has some nice things but they are more pricey. Also Nordstrom's but they are in the same price range as Ann Taylor.

Even I know the importance of at least having one set of business clothes. Mostly for court appearances in my experience. The "Bay" is alright place to buy an nice suit. What is good there is a tailor right there, so you can make adjustments to skirt length etc. right there. However the "Bay" chain has been bought out, By an high end American chain. "Who's name I can't recall at the moment".

Anyway good luck on the job interview.

Well, at least it won't disappear like Eaton's. And hopefully it will offer better quality for the same prices; of late the quality was not up to the old standards. And for the prices, it didn't make much sense to buy there.

If I'm going to pay $300 for a blouse, then I better go to Holt Renfrew or order from Saks. And paying $50 for something one could get in Sears for $20 was pointless.

Some high end retailers have fashion advisers in place. If your pocket can afford it, a couple of visits can be worth every penny. And they discount the consultation from the price of the clothes you buy.

Otherwise, ask the opinion of the saleswoman who seems most knowledgeable (who is better clothed herself, hopefully they don't wear a uniform). And there is always that friend with impeccable taste. If her body proportions are not too different from yours, you can try copying her a little, for starters.
