 The Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) visits Chile this week to inspect human rights conditions in the country’s prisons, following an invitation from Chile’s government.

The governing center-left Concertación coalition that has ruled Chile for the past 18 years has come down with a bad case of “presidentialitis.” There are a growing number of individuals aspiring to be the coalition’s presidential nominee and there is no agreement on a mechanism for selecting the Concertación’s candidate.

OLYMPIC UPDATE: SWIMMER COLLAPSES DUE TO DEHYDRATION

Rescuers retrieved Chilean Kristel Kobrich from the water after the Olympic swimmer nearly fainted in the women's 10-kilometer marathon on Tuesday. Kobrich held her own among the race's leaders for most of the swim, but ultimately suffered from dehydration, forcing her to exit the event. The Santiago native was the only athlete not to finish the race, which took place in the open waters of the Rowing-Conoeing Park in Beijing.
